I was really quite chuffed that during a 50% male school reunion, there was a general consensus which meant going to see Easy A at the Odeon in Manchester.
It IS basically a girly movie… and ends in a typical cliche manor, but in view of the entire film, I really enjoyed it.
A lot of us will have been there. That time in your high school life where you feel completely invisible and have to do something to get on the map. I don’t know what you out there will have done to rectify this situation… I would usually claim that I had a crush on a guy so that people would attempt to set me up with them… not pretend to lose my virginity and then start selling the favour of sexual rumors (made for an interesting plotline spin near the end)…
This isn’t one of those movies where a lot of the humor comes from slapstick moments like when Cady (Lindsay Lohan) falls headfirst into a trash can in Mean Girls… but from the situations that come out of it, like when the celibacy club prevent the main guy in the film from running on looking like a smurf with horns and instead making him dress as a woodchuck. (The moment where he walks away while still wearing his costume… the tail on that mascot made me laugh soooo much!!)
Frankly, I think ANYONE would want to have Olive’s parents from this movie. Ok, they’d make you cringe on a daily basis… but it’d still be cool.
Totally in love with Penn Badgley… I might just start watching Gossip Girl for him. *Sighs* lol. Also found that Emma Stone was really good in this film (I love the corset in the above picture lol) and Amanda Bynes made me laugh quite a lot. Much prefered her as Viola in She’s The Man however.
Despite a few quite serious moments (which actually add quite an interesting depth to a movie that without that would simply be about teenage gossip and cliches…), this is a pretty damn good comedy film and I will definitely be getting it on DVD. Will also be reading The Scarlet Letter, which the film is very loosely based on.
I’m off to see Despicable Me on Friday with James and Mum so I’ll post about that one too… But for now…
