Christmas :3

So the holidays are finally here and I realised I’ve been neglecting my tumblr quite severely recently… Even though there has been LOADS going on…

They finally did it. The government voted through the elevation of tuition fees for next year’s applicants. However!!! It only went through by 21 votes… so the government majority has dwindled on the matter. There are two possible explanations for this: One, a proportion of the Commons have decided that it really is an unjust and ridiculous proposal, or Two, the violent student protests which involved the targetting of Party Headquarters has set a bunch of MPs running for their lives…

I have a feeling it might be number two…

Journalist: What’s your favourite political joke?
David Cameron: Nick Clegg!

Let’s face it, Cameron was right about something. Nick Clegg has turned out to be the BIGGEST disappointment of 2010. He managed to woo us all with his promises of change and the concrete guarantee of no rise in university fees… “VIVA LA CLEGGOLUTION!” we all cried… I mean, come on, we’re students! We would have supported Liberals anyway… But in the end, Lib Dem votes decreased, and no single party took the election. So Cameron takes Clegg under his wing, and with his first ever taste of power, Clegg becomes drunk with it, and bows to Cameron’s every wish for the privilege. Promises? I never made any!

The problem for them now is that the people of this country are finally taking notice of politics. We have been living in a completely apathetic society for so long that only when the political debates were televised did most people take any notice at all! But now, things have changed. People are taking a stand in any way they can. Students in particular have taken to the streets to prove their displeasure… And they are not alone. They have the support of their parents and also a number of their teachers and potential university lecturers (I have it on good authority).

If I were to make an assumption, I’d say that the coalition is on its last legs. I for one miss the days of Gordon Brown. Ok, he wasn’t the best leader in the world… but he did a damn sight better than the cretins we have now. Problem was, Brown said something slightly controversial (no matter how true) and was caught on tape and broadcast to the public. A simple mistake. Why should he be discriminated against when figures like Vince Cable are getting away (maybe not. the decision hasn’t been made on the sky issue yet…) with the same sort of thing even now?

Altogether, 2010 has been a rather rubbish year for Britain, politically, socially AND economically. But hey, there’s only 9 days of it left! Here’s hoping that 2011 will pick up finally… And if not, then we’ll just have to keep on fighting through.

On a lighter note, it IS the festive season. Probably one of my favourite times of year second only to Summer. I’m quite divided on the snow issue. On one hand, it’s messing up all of our annual travel plans to Bedford and it’s scaring me that it may cause troubles for my dad’s flight home from his work conference thing… but on the other hand, it’s so damn pretty!! I wish I could immortalise the sparkle you can see in the snow under streetlights… but alas, even the new age of digital camera cannot capture it, so I’ll just have to enjoy it while it lasts.

I’m not much of a present person at Christmas, as I prefer to give them rather than get them. I didn’t ask for anything from my parents this year because money has been so tight. I know mum and James have bought me something… but nothing serious. I just enjoy spending the time with my family. Besides, I was given a plush dinosaur from one of my college friends, and possibly THE coolest keyring I’ve ever seen from Alice! (It’s a tiger and roars when you press the button! =3)
My Christmas is perfect already. :)

Anywho, It’s now 12.40am and I’m absolutely dead from staying up until 3.30am yesterday… So I’m going to log off and go to sleep. I’ll be out of internet connection for the next few days, so I wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope you have a really nice holiday!! xxxxx
